Courtesy implies politeness, respect or regard. The Head of the Family Group

In traditional African setting, a compound comprises of two or four nuclear family groups, with a head. The head mediates in conflict among members, which might not have been resolved  by individual heads of the nuclear family. Also there are heads of villages and towns. Such heads include the Oba in Yorubaland, Obi in Igboland and Emir in Hausa/Fulani land. Formerly, the heads were responsible for the collection of taxes, general administration and governance. But presently their roles are advisory.

Relationship Between the Father and His Children

The Father is the  head  of the family, and as a result he has several responsibilities. He  has several responsibilities. He takes care of the financial  needs of his family, such needs include feeding, clothing, shelter, payment of school fees among others. He also trains his children, encouraging them to develop good character and become responsible members of society. Children in turn, assist in the domestic work, in addition to running errands before and after school for their Fathers and Mothers. Such  include cleaning the home and washing the plates and pots.

Relationship Between Mother and Children

Mother oversees the day to day activities in the home and also takes care of the welfare of the children. She prepares food, washes clothes and ensures the cleanliness and orderliness of the home. Children assist with domestic work. The Fahter, Mother and children do things in common. The family achieves the unity essential to build aq happy home through understanding and cooperation. By prayers and having devotion together, members of a family build a religious life which includes faith in God and upholding basic religious tenets.

Respect

Respect is to be humble, gentle in behaviour, to give honour to whom it is due and have regard for others. Elders Elders are people who are older in age than others, they could be relations or no relations at home or in public life. In the Nigerian context, depending on the tribal persuasion, ways of showing respect to elders differs from one tribe to the other, in some tribes the male prostrates, while the female kneels down to greet. Elders include : 1) Our parents 2)Our Brothers and Sisiters 3)Our Teachers and Superiors at work 4) Other people who are older than us. Respect For Elders 1)Greeting our Parents in the morning and at other times of the day at home and greeting our Teahcers at school. 2) Obeying our Parents, Teachers and other elders. 3)Listen to advice from elders. 4)Vacate a seat for an elder in any public place. 5)Assist elders in whatever you notice they engage in. 6)Carry out home chores, perform assigned duties at school and at work. 7)Make

Obedience

Obedience means to do what our parents and guardians driect us to do, to follow instructions, submission to authority and to obey the rules and regulations of the school and community. When the Teacher gives instructions, it must be obeyed. Also, an individual must be attentive when teching is in progress. Children must always be obedient at home and school. We must obey our Parents, Teachers and other elderly people. Rewards 1) Obedience improves an all facets of an individual's life. 2)Everyone is happy. It prevents rancour, conflict and other difficult situations. 4)It promotes peace, unity and love.

Friendship

Cultivate good friendship that will have mutually beneficial goals. Friends do things together. They walk, plan, study, play and eat together. Friendship results in development, growth and progress in society. It enables people to understand each other morally. Attributes of Friendship 1) A good friend displays kindness. 2)Such an individual is not self centered and selfish. 3)He/She is trustworthy 4)He/She is honest and reliable. 5)Friends are tolerant. 6)They are helpful in times of need.

Kindness

Kindness is an act of exhibiting the goodness in us to our friends and those we do not know . People should always do good wherever they find themselves. Be good friends, parents, brothers, sisters and relations. Interestingly, without the parent's loving care and kindness, an individual would not have possessed the necessary guidance as a child. Display kindness to the young and old. Render assistance the the needy and disabled. Always be kind to everyone that you come across by being considerate. Reward of Kindness 1) Everybody takes interest in a kind person. 2)People reciprocate kindness. 3)A kind individual receives good will. 4)People are ready to assist one who is kind.

Appreciation

Showing Appreciation   Cultivate the habit of saying ''Thank you''. Regardless of how little a gift is, one should cultivate the habit of showing appreciation. Children receive gifts from their Mothers, Fathers, Teachers and other relatives or friends. But children must be careful not to receive gifts from strangers. Children also receive gifts at different occasions. For instance in the school, pupils/stud nets receive gifts at the end of year activities for punctuality and excellent academic performance.

Children : The Future Leaders

Children are the leaders of tomorrow that is why it is necessary to do everything possible to ensure that they imbibe the right norms and values Remedy     Remedy is to correct a bad behavior or situation. 1)When an individual offends you, report the matter to your Parents at home or Teachers at school. 2) Avoid retaliation. 3)When you sustain injury or fall ill, report immediately to your Parents or Teachers. 4)Always seek advice from elders.
